Application of Lean Methodology for Improved Quality and Efficiency in Operating Room Instrument Availability
This group recognized the unnecessary burden on the OR supply chain that results from excess instrumentation. By applying a Lean model, for minimally invasive spine cases alone they were able to reduce the number of instruments by 70%, which in turn decreased set up time by 37%.
They found that their approach would provide a cost savings of $2.8 million annually for the hospital, while improving quality. OpFlow embodies a similar approach by integrating lean methodology into data-driven recommendations based on actual usage, coupled with robust features to ensure that the changes implemented are continuously improved.
