Surgical tray reduction for cost saving in pediatric surgical cases: A qualitative systematic review
Authors at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City recently published a systematic review article on the impact of surgical instrument tray optimization in the Journal of Pediatric Surgery.
Their findings demonstrate that the benefits reported in adult surgical literature are also applicable to pediatric surgery.
Taking into consideration the wide breadth and variation of surgical procedures encompassed by the pediatric field, they were still able to report an impressive average reduction in surgical instrumentation and substantial associated cost savings, while preserving quality of care.
This further validates the ability for data-driven solutions that optimize surgical instrumentation to yield significant benefits that transcend surgical specialty and patient population.
